1. Achievements
After 3 years, Hua Chenyu finally fulfilled his promise to hold a concert where he can watch the sunrise with his fans! The world’s first solo concert specifically be held in the early morning to greet the sunrise. Fortunately, after several days of cloudy weather, everyone finally saw the sunrise!
This Sunrise Concert’s stage design won the Platinum Award at the MUSE Design Awards.
The stage design had been significantly upgraded based on last year’s design, and the music team had also been replaced. Producer Bernard Zheng, who has collaborated with Hua since his debut, served as music director and added new arrangements to half of Hua’s songs.
Teachers and students from the China Academy of Art designed an installation art exhibition for the concert.
On June 2nd, a re-recording album “Sunrise Concert Speciel Album“ including 8 rearranged tracks selected from the Sunrise Concert, was released.

2. Anecdote
For the Sunrise Concert in Yantai, tens of thousands of fans who couldn’t buy tickets gathered on the beach and lawns outside the venue all night. Organizers set up special safe viewing areas on the beach, added speakers, and even opened the entrance to let outside fans in for the final few songs before the concert ended.
When holding a stadium concert, Hua always rents out a shopping mall atrium in the city to open a pop-up store and sell peripheral goods and snacks.
A different sentence was printed each day on the long ribbon paper that was sprayed at the end of the performance. However, on the first day in Hong Kong, the spraying equipment was damaged by rain and the long ribbon paper could not be released.

Yantai Concert
This time, Hua’s personal concert still took the form of a rock festival, and was held for three consecutive days (in the evenings of May 1-2 and early morning of May 4) in the beautiful coastal city of Yantai in eastern China.
The concert on the third day was held from 3:00 am to 6:00 am, and more than 100,000 people greeted the sunrise while singing “Growing Toward the Sun (向阳而生)”!
Wang Ye, an online self-media operator who specializes in analyzing the equipment and costs of various concerts, followed and filmed a micro-documentary of the Sunrise Concert.
Hong Kong Concert
This was Hua’s first personal concert outside mainland China.
The concert still took the form of a rock festival, and was held for three consecutive days (May 24-26) at the Central Harbourfront Event Space, facing the Victoria Harbour.
After 2021, the Mars Concert was finally able to set off fireworks again.
And in the stage design of some songs (“God Tree“, “Bullfight“), Smoke Fog Jets were replaced by flame-throwing effect.
Hua sang the full version of “I am What I am“ (not just a section in the Cover Songs Medley) at his personal concert after a long absence. This was considered a tribute to Leslie Cheung at the place where he died.
Nanchang Concert
On July 20-21, Hua Chenyu continued his live tour in Nanchang, the capital city of Jiangxi Province, China.
For the first performance of the second half of the year, a new four-sided stage design was unveiled, and a completely different setlist was arranged from the rock theme park-style concerts. It was also the first time that Hua sang all his own songs without singing any cover songs. In order to sing more songs, Hua arranged a rock song medley and a fan favorite song medley.
A new song will be released in each city in the second half of the year. This time in Nanchang, Hua debuted his new song “Ship of Theseus (忒修斯的船)“.
As the weather was extremely hot, a full range of cooling measures were taken. The outdoor air-conditioning fans that were urgently purchased at the Wuhan Concert last year were not used in Changsha due to the rain, but this time they finally came in handy again, spraying cold water mist on the arena all the time before the show started. At the entrance to each block of stand seats, ice buckets were placed to wipe and cool the body. In addition, cooling pads, cooling wipes and menthol balm were distributed free of charge to all audience members.
Hua almost got heatstroke while singing on the first day, so in the second half of Day2, he appeared on stage wearing a ice vest that he had worn during rehearsal.
Hefei Concert
On August 10-11, Hua Chenyu continued his live tour in Hefei, the capital city of Anhui Province, China.
A new song will be released in each city in the second half of the year. This time, Hua debuted his new song “Quirky Psychology (怪诞心理学)“.
August 10th is the “Qixi Festival”, which is the Chinese Valentine’s Day based on the romantic legend of the Zhinü and Niulang. As a surprise, Hua gifted each audience with a pack of flower seeds. In addition, the pop-up store sold limited-time snacks (pink soft drinks, red butterfly pastry sets, and flower tea sets).
During “Sea of Wind“ on the 10th, the big screen showed the most affectionate conversation that Hua and his fans have had in years. From the handwriting, fans inferred that the words shown on the big screen were written by Hua himself.
On the 11th, while singing the last few sentences of “I’m Here AKA
I Really Want to
Love This World“, Hua squatted down and appeared to be unwell. After the concert, He posted on Weibo: “I’m fine, don’t worry, see you in Chongqing! (我没事，放心吧，我们重庆见！)”
Chongqing Concert
On August 24, Hua Chenyu continued his live tour in Chongqing city.
On that day, the temperature in Chongqing reached 42 degrees Celsius. In addition to cooling pads and cooling wipes, Huoxiang Zhengqi Shui (a traditional Chinese medicine drink for treating heatstroke) and drinking water were also provided free of charge.
A new song will be released in each city in the second half of the year. This time, Hua debuted his new song “Warm House (温暖的房子)“.
Beijing (Bird’s Nest) Concert
On September 7-8, Hua Chenyu performed at the National Stadium (Bird’s Nest) for the third time.
September 8th marks the sixth anniversary of Hua’s first personal concert at the Bird’s Nest. As a commemoration, Hua Chenyu sent physical gifts by courier to all the audience members who purchased tickets through official channels. The gifts include perfumes, scented candles, sachets, hand creams and a variety of T-shirts. The gifts were designed by artist Song Santu and were also exhibited as part of an installation art piece at Mars Concert 2023.
At the end of the set list, “Growing Toward the Sun - Sunrise Ver.“ was sung, recreating the grand occasion of the Sunrise Concert.

Guiyang Concert
On October 4-6, Hua Chenyu held his last rock festival-style concert of this year for three consecutive days in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, southwest China.
Fireworks were allowed at the venue, and not only were fireworks set off during the last song, but also during the song “Eternal Flame“, several sophisticated rocket-shaped fireworks were set off.
Guiyang is located in a hilly area with an average altitude of more than 1,000 meters. In autumn, the temperature drops, and Hua feels discomfort in his throat due to the rapid inhalation of a large amount of air when singing. So, he changed his habit of rarely drinking water during performances and began to drink hot water frequently on stage.
At the Matinee on the third day, Hua impromptu pulled his friend Ning Huanyu, whom he met on his debut show “Superboy 2013“, from the audience to the stage, and together with Zuo Li, the three of them sang “Follow Me“, a collaborative song composed by Ning.
Hangzhou (Big Lotus) Concert
On August 24, Hua Chenyu continued his live tour in Hangzhou. Hangzhou’s newly built “Big Lotus” Stadium is second only to Beijing’s Bird’s Nest in terms of area. The audience for this concert exceeded 80,000 people.
A new song will be released in each city in the second half of the year. This time, Hua debuted his new song “Human’s Love (人之爱)“.
Taking the stage with a long-lost short hairstyle
On the evening before the concert, Hua live-streamed himself touring the stadium. It was the first time for him to personally watch the stage effects from the various levels of the stands, and he said it was much more beautiful and spectacular than what he could see on the stage.
During the concert, Hua recalled the Hangzhou stop of the “Superboy 2013” live tour which he took part in shortly after his debut, and impromptu sang a few lines of “Mr. Almost (差不多先生)”, which he sang back then.
Wuhan Concert
On November 10, Hua Chenyu continued his live tour in his hometown of Wuhan.
The opening song was changed to “You Have To Believe This Is Not the Last Day (你要相信这不是最后一天)“, a charity song Hua wrote to support the citizens of Wuhan who have been severely hurt by COVID 19.
Wuhan is known as the “Breakfast Capital” of China because of the variety of breakfast options available, and eating breakfast is called “passing breakfast (过早)” in local dialect. On November 7th, Hua rode a shared bike alone early in the morning, had breakfast (hot dry noodles, bean curd skin, eggnog), and broadcast the whole thing live on his mobile phone.
The day after the concert, Hua Chenyu strolled to the popular check-in spot on Mars where a large number of fans gathered - Wuhan Conservatory of Music (Hua’s alma mater), and lined up with fans to buy the dessert that became popular because of his own favorite.
