Toward the end of June 2014, when work on the album Quasimodo’s Gift was in its final stages, Hua Chenyu wrote “Why Nobody Fights” which was inspired by a most unlikely source. In an interview, Hua stated that the inspiration for this song came after watching a soccer match during his travels in Europe. He wanted to dedicate the song to his audience to encourage them to be true to themselves.
Do It While You Are Still Young (趁你还年轻)
“Do It While You Are Still Young (趁你还年轻)” is a very popular old song in the late eighties. Hua Chenyu covered this old song in 2013 for a movie called “Up In the Winds”
Starting in 2021, Mars Concert had been upgraded to an outdoor rock festival. Hua put his rock songs in the more exciting Evening Show, and put his early songs and some pop songs in the more relaxed Matinee. This song had also become one of Matinee’s fixed repertoire.
Songs for the Movie “Forever Young (怒放2013)”
In November 2013, the TOP 4 contestants of “Superboy 2013“ sang two songs, “Goodbye, Youth (青春再見)” and “Hi! Freedom(Hi! 自由)”, for the movie “Forever Young (怒放2013)”.
Included in the “Superboy 2013“ compilation album of the TOP 10 contestants.
Boundless Oceans, Vast Skies (海阔天空)
Hua Chenyu’s last performance in the musical talent competition “Superboy 2013“ where he debuted as the champion was the song “Boundless Oceans, Vast Skies (海阔天空)” he sang in the final round of the finals on September 27, 2013. This song is the masterpiece of beyond, the most famous Hong Kong rock band in China in the 1990s.
On September 20, 2013, Hua Chenyu sang Shin Band’s sad love song “Provocation (挑衅)” in the “TOP5 to TOP3 Love Songs PK Round” of “Superboy 2013“, in an atmosphere full of rebellion and murderous intent.
On August 23, 2013, Hua Chenyu sang “Dear Child (亲爱的小孩)”, the in the “TOP8 to TOP7” of “Superboy 2013“.
On August 2, 2013, Hua Chenyu sang the classic English song “Somebody That I Used to Know” in the competition for the TOP 10 of “Superboy 2013“.
On July 12, 2013, Hua Chenyu sang “The Kill”, the masterpiece of 30 seconds to mars, in the competition for the TOP 20 of “Superboy 2013“.
On June 29, 2013, at the preselection in Changsha division of China’s most popular talent show “Superboy 2013“, Hua Chenyu wore an old T-shirt, carried a keyboard on his back, and sang his original “Lyricless Song” without makeup. On that, Hua won the qualification to compete for the top 20 in the country, and that was also his first appearance on TV.
