In February 2018, Hua Chenyu participated in Hunan TV’s singing talent show contest “Singer 2018” as a filled-in contestant. Hua fought until the finals and won second place.
On April 13, 2018, Hua Chenyu adapted Chinese singer Angela Chang’s masterpiece “Shouts (呐喊)” into hard rock, and performed it in the 2nd round of the singing contest “Singer 2018” finals.
On April 13, 2018, in the 1st round of the singing contest “Singer 2018” finals, Hua Chenyu and support guest singer G.E.M. sang the latter’s masterpiece “Light Years Away (光年之外)” in the form of a male and female duet.
On April 6, 2018, Hua Chenyu sang the late Asian superstar Leslie Cheung’s masterpiece “I am What I am (我)” in the singing contest “Singer 2018” EP12.
On March 30, 2018, Hua Chenyu adapted and sang Chinese rock star Pu Shu’s masterpiece “The Ordinary Path (平凡之路)” in the singing contest “Singer 2018” EP11.
Hua Chenyu sang Chinese rock star Cui Jian’s masterpiece “Fake Monk (假行僧)” in his debut show “Superboy 2013” in 2013 and in the singing contest “Singer 2018” EP10 in March, 2018. Both times he made subversive arrangements of the songs.
On March 16, 2018, Hua Chenyu performed a subversive adaptation of the Taiwanese indie band No Party For Cao Dong’s masterpiece “Wayfarer (山海)” on the singing contest “Singer 2018” EP9.
On February 16, 2018 (Chinese New Year), Hua Chenyu adapted and sang asian pop star Jay Chou’s “Nunchucks (双截棍)” in the singing contest “Singer 2018” EP6.
On February 9, 2018, Hua Chenyu adapted and sang independent musician Xi Lou’s masterpiece “Child (孩子)” in the singing contest “Singer 2018” EP5.
